South Shore Harbour Resort is located southeast of Houston, Texas in a sea-side resort town called Kemah.
We chose a resort (as opposed to a camp, retreat, or the local YMCA,) that met a stringent criteria, located central to the US, assuring that no one has more than half the country to traverse. This venue has a conference center, marina, hotel, event breakout rooms of various sizes, restaurants, extraordinary banquet and catering options, and a host of resort type amenities; pool, country club (golf), water-craft rentals, etc. The resort staff is very gracious and they have offered us a great rate.
South Shore Harbour Resort, about 25 miles from downtown Houston, is located on the south side of Clear Lake which feeds into Galveston Bay. NASA ("Houston we have a problem") is located on the north side of the lake. The town of Kemah feels a bit like the Florida Keys.
There are additional benefits to this location: The city of Houston itself makes a lot of sense geographically and inexpensive/efficient travel options abound in/out. Southwest Airlines (and other discount carriers) fly into Houston Hobby Airport, a quick 15-20 minute ride to the resort and the shuttle service is complimentary.
